What happens if yu55 hits the moon

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted Those people on Moonbase Alpha dont share your humor Quoted: I find little humor in making light of cosmic billiards. Very thought provoking question. Possibly, but then vampires populations would not be kept in check. What's a Gaia? Is that like a male Geisha? You suresies? It's flying through the same real estate as the frackin' moon, man.

At a minimum, wouldn't it's passing displace other, smaller objects? Astronaut pee. Debris from Chinese-built satellites. Ron Paul. I suresies. I disappoint. Perhaps it's bounce around Mars' and slingshot back at us? I would like to be part of this project.

The most recent impact of this size is not known, but there are about 20 similar craters known in the geologic record, including the Wetumka crater in Alabama and the Rock Elm crater in Wisconsin.

Of the known large craters, the most recent are the six-mile-wide Bosumtwi crater in Ghana, which is about 1 million years old, and the nine-mile-diameter Zhamanshin crater in Kazakhstan, which is about , years old, Melosh said. Apophis, a similar-sized asteroid about one-third of a mile in diameter is the biggest threat in our near future. It has a tiny chance of striking the Earth in Melosh is a co-author of a NRC report "Defending Planet Earth" that explores the feasibility of detecting all Earth-crossing asteroids down to a diameter of meters, or about one-tenth of a mile, and of ways to mitigate their hazard.

Various objects hit the moon quite frequently, creating new craters on its surface. The gif image at right shows a meteoroid hitting moon on May 2, , an impact which created a crater about 14 meters wide and three deep. The small white flash on the right-hand side is the impact occurring, but at a speed seven times slower than reality. At regular speed, the flash lasted four-tenths of a second.

The rock that collided with the moon was only about 10 inches across.
